Please be aware that weather conditions may force Ski Sapphire to close for short periods thru the season. This is rare but can happen. High winds, dense fog and heavy rain occasionally force the area to close... 

Please check the [Snow Report] and/or call 828-743-7663 for last minute changes.


After New Year's Day, Ski Sapphire Valley is only open Friday Noon - Sunday 6PM with the following two exceptions:

Jan 19, 2026 - Martin Luther King Weekend - Open Monday

Feb 16,2026- President's Day Weekend - Open Monday

Ticket Sales:
Tube Park: First Run 10AM, Ticket Sales start at 8:30AM 
Skis/Boards/Lift: First Run 9AM, Ticket Sales start at 9AM 
No cash or checks!

Waivers/Forms
Ski waivers and tubing waivers should be filled out before coming into the community center. [Download Forms Here] This will save time getting to the cashier.

Sapphire Valley History

SOUTHERN SNOW SKIING
After years of taking his family from Sapphire Valley to other ski areas like Cataloochee near Waynesville, Gene Howerdd, Jr. (founding family of Sapphire Valley) was convinced Sapphire Valley could support southern skiing.

EARLY SNOW MAKING
The first year, 1964,  included only a rope tow and basic snow making equipment to test the market and snow making processes. After a successful first year, a double chair lift was installed and the base lodge served wine, fondue, and hot chocolate to keep visitors fueled!
