Ski Sapphire Valley – A Brief History: The Sapphire Valley ski area was started in 1964 as a test to see if southern skiing would work at the resort. The short beginner slope and a sled run were very popular so the Howerdd Family, owners of the resort at that time, installed a double chairlift and cleared the mountain for two runs.
